Cayte Lyonnais

Military Dependent, US Navy SEAL

College of William and Mary / Mathematics & Certification in Secondary Education

Cayte Lyonnais was born in Virginia Beach, and, over the course of 18 years, has attended schools in 4 states and 3 countries. She speaks 3 languages, earned a Varsity letter in cross country, and participated in Air Force JROTC in Belgium. Cayte also worked to save for college, interned for a 4th Grade Gifted class and an 8th Grade Inclusion Math class while maintaining above a 4.0 GPA; she graduated in top 10% of her class. Upon graduation, Cayte signed a contract with the Virginia Beach City Public School system guaranteeing a teaching position once college requirements have been fulfilled. She is currently a Junior, majoring in Mathematics at the College of William and Mary while simultaneously pursuing a certification in Secondary Education and volunteers in her local church youth program.

As a proud military dependent, she is very grateful for every opportunity this life has afforded her. Cayte believes being the daughter of a Navy SEAL has given her a unique perspective and appreciation of the sacrifices our service men and women make every day. Her life experiences in America and abroad have gifted her friendships with people of different nationalities, faiths, and cultures that will influence how she will teach her future students. Her hope is to share this deep gratitude with her students and restore the pride, goals, and dreams most Americans once held for their country, one classroom at a time. She is honored to be a Glen Doherty Scholarship recipient and will strive to uphold the values of the foundation as she pursues her degree, and beyond.
