TIMELINE OF KEY DATES


JUNE/JULY

  • Register for the marathon using email link invitation
  • Set up your Haku fundraising page linked to the GDMF charity
  • Download the QR Code for your fundraising page to your phone
  • June 24: Attend Team GDMF Meeting
  • Review the guides and other documents/links provided
  • Get yourself set up on the NYRR Training App
  • Complete your training plan, long runs and race goals
  • July 15: 16 week training plan officially starts!


AUGUST

  • By August 4: Make sure you're registered on the Training App!
  • By August 15: Send fundraising email plea to family, friends, neighbors, colleagues - include a link to your donation page. Emails work much better than social media!
  • August 13: Transportation and Bag Check selection opens
  • August 31: Long run goal = 14 miles
  • August 31: Fundraising goal = $1500


SEPTEMBER

  • By September 4: Sign up for free training app - last date!
  • September 9: Second Team Zoom
  • By September 10: Select your Transportation to the start and Bag Check options!
  • By September 15: Send follow up ask - include training updates and pictures
  • September 30: Long run goal = 19 miles
  • September 30: Fundraising goal = $2500 
  • Incentive: Raise $3000 by September 30 and earn a piece of NYC Marathon gear!


OCTOBER

  • October 15: Long run goal = 21 miles (longest run is 3 weeks before marathon day)
  • By October 15: Send 3rd fundraising request/training update
  • October 16: Raffle for all donors/all runners - win a GDMF camp mug!


NOVEMBER

  • November 1: Provide update on donations, instructions for your friends, family and donors to track you on race day
  • November 3: Long run goal = 26.2 miles on race day!
  • November 3: Fundraising target = $5,000+ total by race day!
  • November 10: Send a final thank you to all of your donors - include a picture of you from the race!



PAPER CHECKS & MATCHING GIFTS

Paper checks are most useful for larger donations as they are not subject to the fundraising platform fees. Any checks should be made out to the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation and mailed to Tara for deposit.


You or your donors can mail checks directly to Tara to deposit and to "credit" your fundraising total manually in Haku:

We accept matching gifts - this is a great way to double a donation! These sometimes take a while to come in, so please send the confirmation email to Tara so we can keep track of the source (company name or fund) and amount.

Transportation, Bags and Expo

  • Please check back here for details
  • Select your Transportation to the start and bag check option - August 13 to September 10, first come, first choice!
  • Please check your preferences carefully as you will not be able to change once selections are made!


NYRR Training App

  • You may sign up for the Runna training app using your NYRR account and one of the promo codes below. Codes are only good when signing up within the date range provided.

  • Please be sure to personalize your Haku page - add pictures and share why you've chosen to run for the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation.
  • Keep an eye on your fundraising goal - as you get closer to achieving it, please bump it up. People like to give to buckets that are not yet full!

  • Everyone is registered through NYRR
